Board Member

Dr. Basam Shamo is a board-certified pediatric dentist and educator with a passion for
advancing children’s oral health. A proud product of Detroit’s academic community, he earned
both his undergraduate degree and Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Detroit
Mercy in 2013. After seven years in general dentistry, he pursued his specialty and completed
his pediatric dental residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where he continues to teach
and mentor future pediatric dentists today.

Dr. Shamo practices full-time as an associate pediatric dentist while remaining deeply engaged
in the profession through leadership and advocacy. He has previously served on the executive
board of the Detroit District Dental Society for over five years, served as Membership Chair for
the Michigan Dental Association, and was selected as a member of the inaugural cohort of the
MDA’s LEAD (Leadership Exploration and Development) program. He is also an active advocate
for children’s oral health, most recently participating in the Pediatric Oral Health Advocacy
Conference with the residents from Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Shamo brings that same energy and curiosity to life beyond the clinic.
He has a love for travel and adventure, enjoying hiking and biking, and finds joy and inspiration
in the arts through Broadway shows and live concerts.
