Membership Information

The Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (MAPD) is a State chapter of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). As such, we encourage membership in both organizations. If you are a member of the AAPD and live in Michigan you will be enrolled in the MAPD and have MAPD member privileges if state dues are paid. If you are not an AAPD or wish to join the MAPD please use the AAPD mebership application to apply.

MAPD Membership Categories

The membership categories and pricing reflect the categories in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. 

  • Associate Membership
    Applicant must meet the requirement Dentists who are educationally qualified in one of the other specialty areas of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association, and pediatricians and other physicians. Procedure Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $50 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the AAPD headquarters office or create an account and apply online. List two (2) professional colleagues as references on the application form. Applicant is responsible for the current annual dues prorated by the number of months remaining in the billing year from the date of acceptance of membership. Privileges Serve as consultants to councils/committee, but not vote or hold office. Attend the MAPD meetings at member rates. Receive copies of all general membership communications.
  • Faculty Membership
    All full time faculty are eligible for discounted dues with the MAPD. This discount can be received by emailing the MAPD at michiganapd.org@gmail.com. We will then process and send you your refund.
  • Active Membership
    Applicant must meet all of the requirements Tripartite member of the American Dental Association Meets the educational requirements of the ADA for the announcement of ethical practice in Pediatric Dentistry. Submits a copy of the certificate or degree in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry from an accredited program. Approved by the Credentials and Ethics Committee. Procedures Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $100 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the AAPD headquarters office or create an account and apply online. Submit a copy of a certificate or degree in the specialty of pediatric dentistry from a program approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. List two (2) AAPD members as references on the application form. Student members of the AAPD whose applications for Active membership are received on or before Dec. 31 in the same year as completion of their pediatric dental program do not pay an application fee. Also, first-year membership dues are waived, and second- and third-year dues are reduced 50 percent. Applicant is responsible for the current annual dues prorated by the number of months remaining in the billing year from the date of acceptance of membership. Privileges Vote on all issues brought before the General Assembly. Hold office and serve on councils/committees. Attend the MAPD meetings at member rate. Receive copies of all general membership communications.
  • Postdoctoral Membership
    Applicant must meet the requirement This category of membership is available, upon formal application to full and part-time students enrolled in an educational program in pediatric dentistry approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the U.S. or Canada. Request for post-doctoral student membership in AAPD serves as application for participating state chapters. Procedure Complete the formal postdoctoral application and send it to the AAPD headquarters office or create an account and apply online. Privileges Attend the MAPD meetings at resident rate. Receive copies of all general membership communication. Attend and participate in all MAPD continuing education opportunities.
  • Affiliate Membership
    Applicant must meet all of the requirements Dentists who are not pediatric dentists or any other recognized specialty by the ADA. Tripartite member of the American Dental Association Procedure Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $50 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the AAPD headquarters office or create an account and apply online. List two (2) professional colleagues as references on the application form. Privileges Attend the MAPD meetings at member rate. Serve on councils/committees, but not vote in the General Assembly or hold office in the MAPD. Receive copies of all general membership communications. Attend and participate in all MAPD continuing education opportunities. *Predoc AAPD Student members that do not got into Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program can join the Affiliate Membership catagory at 50% dues reduction for the first two years after dental school Note: Affiliate members may not use the Academy name, membership status logo or imply special expertise or training in pediatric dentistry.
  • Allied
    Applicant must meet the requirement This category of membership is available to dental and medical allied health professionals, including dental hygienists, dental assistants, pediatric nurses, office managers and physician assistants, whose interests are consistent with the mission of the MAPD. Procedure Complete the formal application and send it with the application fee of $50 (U.S. currency non refundable) to the AAPD headquarters office or create an account and apply online. List two professional colleagues as references on the application form. Privileges Attend the MAPD meetings at member rates. Receive copies of all general membership communication and publications. Note: Allied members may not use the Academy name, membership status, or logo.
